Mushara Lodge

back to the index

Located only 8 kms from the Von Lindequist Gate on the eastern outskirts of the Etosha National Park, Mushara Lodge is ideally situated for travelers visiting the park. The name Mushara derives from the Purple-Pod Terminalia tree, which grows in abundance on the lodge grounds and the surrounding area. The thatched public area consists of a small library bar with extensive wine cellar, airy lounge with welcoming fireplace for chilly winter evenings, dining area and well-stocked curio shop.
A feature of Mushara is its large, tiled, bright-blue swimming pool surrounded by green lawn that is kept well manicured by the occasional visit of local wildlife.
In a horseshoe-shape around the swimming pool there are ten chalets, spaced well apart. Each chalet and room is extremely spacious and is furnished with air-conditioning, direct-dial telephone, wardrobe, luggage rack and en suite bathrooms. Seven chalets and the guide rooms have a shower only, while the rest of the rooms have a shower and a bath.
Great attention has been paid to the décor, which is an eclectic blend of traditional African and modern art works combined with original paintings. At Mushara the emphasis is on friendly, personalized service accompanied by excellent innovative dining. The only meal served buffet style is breakfast with a choice between continental and cooked English-style fare. All other meals are served on a set menu basis and can be accompanied by a variety of excellent wines from South Africa. The main attraction of Mushara is its proximity to Etosha National Park with its diversity and abundance of wildlife. Guided game drives in specialized vehicles into the park can be pre-booked. Another activity available are two well-marked hiking trails, which are ideal for those guests who want to stretch their legs.
