The Desert Homestead’s 20 tastefully appointed rock chalets afford guests a sweeping view from the comfort of their beds. The décor hints at a bygone era of Namibian farm life featuring enamel basins, brass taps and polished concrete floors. Traditional farm cooked meals with a little modern flair are prepared using organically grown herbs and vegetables from the garden. Breakfasts and dinners are served al fresco on the veranda, with lighter temptations being available throughout the day at the supply store. The supply store is reminiscent of an old trading post, stocking everything from tobacco and ‘biltong’ - dried meat – to home baked breads and preserves. Beautifully groomed horses with armchair-like trail saddles provide guests with an exciting way to explore the area. On their respective steeds, guests will meander across the grassy plains, ancient river courses and dunes adjoining the Namib Naukluft Park. There are two excursions daily, at sunrise and at sunset, as it is at these times that temperatures are coolest and most of the magical desert denizens are at their most active.
For a slightly more sedate experience, guests can enjoy the evening sundowner drive to an elevated viewpoint. The Desert Homestead is conveniently situated for easy access to all the sights and activities of the south, a mere 25min drive (31,5 km) from the entrance to Sossusvlei and Sesriem Canyon.
